The Conservative Party is Britain's largest centre-right party. They have strong beliefs in traditional values and institutions, and as the largest party in local Government, hope to represent everyone in Britain by making it a better place to live for generations to come. Below we have listed a selection of party groups, pressure groups and think tanks. This list is by no means comprehensive. These are independent organisations; their views will not necessarily reflect those of the Conservative Party.

  • Adam Smith Institute

    Adam Smith was the Scottish philosopher and economist best known for The Wealth of Nations, his pioneering book on free trade and market economics. Since 1977, the Institute has been an innovator of market economic policies, promoting free trade, choice and competition.

  • Association of Conservative Clubs

    The Association has 1,100 affiliated Clubs throughout the country, and the website is updated regularly. Keep up to date with Conservative Club activities.

  • Atlantic Bridge

    The Atlantic Bridge seeks to bring together Britons and Americans who share a common belief in traditional conservative values, and who recognise the value of close trans-Atlantic relations and the importance of rebuilding them.

  • Atlantic Partnership

    Atlantic Partnership is a bipartisan initiative that aims to foster debate about the relationship between America and Europe while promoting the benefits of a strong and stable Atlantic community of nations. It was founded by Michael Howard in 2001.

  • Bluelist

    Bluelist.org has been set up by members of the Conservative Party to make it easy for graduates and younger professionals to find out more about the Party.

  • Bow Group

    This centre-right think tank was founded in 1951. The Group has no corporate view, but exists to develop policy, publish research and stimulate debate within the Conservative Party.

  • Bruges Group

    A think tank which spearheads the intellectual battle against the notion of ever-closer-union in Europe. It campaigns against further integration and British involvement in a single European state.

  • Cchange

    Conservatives for Change works to modernise the Conservative Party and to ensure that it reflects the realities and complexities of contemporary Britain. It believes the ability to adapt to an evolving society has been the key to Conservative success.

  • Centre for Policy Studies

    The CPS was founded in 1974 by Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph, and can claim a large share of the credit for initiating policies such as privatisation, trade union reform, council house sales, pensions deregulation and public services reform.

  • Centre for Social Justice

    The Centre believes that the war on poverty requires a new approach. It also runs an annual awards programme for effective poverty-fighting organisations.

  • Civitas

    Civitas is an independent think tank that seeks to deepen public understanding of the legal, institutional and moral framework that makes possible a free and democratic society.

  • Conservative Animal Welfare Group

    The group works closely with mainstream animal welfare groups and wants to see that animal welfare reforms are given a high priority within the Party. It has a basic philosophy that animals are sentient beings and should be treated with respect.

  • Conservative Christian Fellowship

    The interdenominational CCF is renewing the Christian contribution to the Party. It produces a quarterly full-colour journal entitled 'Conservatism' for its members. The CCF holds regular events and communicates Conservative thinking to Britain's churches.

  • Conservative Disability Group

    The Group believes that the disabled person is an individual who, as far as possible should be able to make their own decisions and do what eveyone else does.

  • Conservative Foreign & Commonwealth Council

    The Council provides a forum for the discussion of international foreign relations to promote greater understanding and awareness.

  • Conservative Friends of Israel

    CFI is committed to the Conservative Party and to the welfare of the State of Israel and dedicated to establishing close links between Great Britain and Israel.

  • Conservative Group for Europe

    The Group promotes Britain's active membership of the European Union. Its activities include hosting debates on topical European issues, publishing policy research and campaigning in European elections.

  • Conservative History Group

    The Group promotes the discussion and research of historical topics, particularly those relating to the history of the Conservative Party and Conservative politics.

  • Conservative Medical Society

    The Society was established over twenty years ago to promote debate on healthcare. It holds regular meetings and publishes related papers.

  • Conservative Muslim Forum

    The Conservative Party represents the entire British population irrespective of race, colour or religion. The Forum seeks to ensure that the Muslim community is fully involved in our national life at all levels.

  • Conservative National Education Society

    The Society is the special interest group within the party for all educational matters. Its members all have a direct involvement or interest in education and training.

  • Conservative National Property Advisory Committee

    The Committee provides a free strategic guidance service for Associations and Clubs with a property problem, or who wish to review their property assets.

  • Conservative Party Archive

    The Party's archives are housed at the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, as a source for academic research, and are held in a separate Trust. They are a valuable source for historians interested in twentieth century economic, social and political history.

  • Conservative Political Officers Network

    The Network is for Conservative political officers across the country. It represents members who work for over fifty local authorities and Conservative groups in cities, districts, boroughs, and county councils up and down the country.

  • Conservative Rural Action Group

    The Group is the Party's umbrella organisation for all rural issues. The Group's aim is to strengthen the Conservative presence in rural communities and to campaign on rural issues.

  • Conservative Technology Forum

    The Forum is for members who want to influence the use of technology in politics and help the Party to discuss technology in Parliament.

  • Conservative Transport Group

    CTG is a nationwide group of the Party, focusing on transport. The Group produces a bi-monthly newsletter and organises visits, political conferences, events and a conference fringe programme.

  • Conservative Way Forward

    CWF was founded to defend and build upon these achievements of Margaret Thatcher, and develop still further deregulation, choice and enterprise within the Conservative Party.

  • ConservativeHome

    ConservativeHome is an independent website run by Conservative Party members, for Conservative Party members. It offers a seven days a week guide to the latest political news.

  • Conservatives at Work

    The group is open to all members of the Party who are in employment -- including employers, managers, company directors and the self-employed.

  • Direct Democracy

    The Direct Democracy movement is a pressure group within the party advocating localist solutions to our policy dilemmas on issues including health, crime, education, local government and constitutional reform.

  • Enterprise Forum

    The Forum provides a two-way channel of communication between the Conservative Party and the business community to produce better informed policies and legislation.

  • European Foundation

    The Foundation engages in comment and analysis on all issues relating to European integration. It is in favour of European trade, but opposes European government. It campaigns for reform of the European Union as a community of independent sovereign states.

  • Gibraltar Conservatives

    The very successful participation of Gibraltar in the 2004 European election has brought into focus the need for a local Conservative Association. Although not active in Gibraltar politics, their mission is to engage politically with fellow Conservatives in Gibraltar.

  • Globalisation Institute

    The Institute is an independent think-tank that believes that only by integrating the poorest into the world economy can we put an end to the poverty that still blights much of world today.

  • Institute for Fiscal Studies

    This independent research organisation aims to provide high quality economic analysis of public policy; it looks in particular at the UK tax system, considering the likely effects of fiscal policy on every section of the population.

  • Institute of Economic Affairs

    The UK's original free-market think-tank was founded in 1955. It believes that problems and challenges are best dealt with by people and companies interacting with each other freely - without interference from politicians and the state.

  • International Democrat Union

    The IDU is the alliance of Conservative, Christian Democrat and like-minded parties of the centre and centre-right. Formed in 1983, it provides a forum in which Parties holding similar beliefs can learn from each other, act together, establish contacts and speak with one strong voice to promote democracy and centre-right policies around the globe.

  • International Young Democrat Union

    IYDU is a global alliance of centre right political youth organisations united by a common desire for greater freedom and less government.

  • Margaret Thatcher Foundation

    The Foundation was formed in 1991 to advance the cause of political and economic freedom. Its website is the largest contemporary history site of its kind. The site offers free access to the full texts of thousands of documents relating to the politics of the last quarter of a century.

  • Open Europe

    Open Europe is an independent think tank set up by some of the UK's leading business people to contribute bold new thinking to the debate about the direction of the EU, opposing 'ever closer union'.

  • Party Election Manifestos

    Keele University have compiled the text of the general election manifestos of the main political parties since 1945.

  • Policy Exchange

    This think tank seeks fresh solutions to the problems besetting Britain's public services. It explores ways of extending the benefits of strong communities in a free society to more people around the world.

  • Politeia

    Politeia seeks to promote debate about the place of the state in the daily lives of men and women, across the range of issues which affect them, from employment and tax to education, health and pensions.

  • Reform

    Reform promotes new directions for public policy based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, and individual liberty. It believes that by reforming the public sector, increasing investment and extending choice, high quality services can be made available for everyone.

  • Selsdon Group

    The Group exists to promote the case for free market policies within the Conservative Party. Philosophically, its members believe that economic freedom is the indispensable condition for political and social freedom.

  • Social Market Foundation

    The SMF promotes innovative economic and social policy ideas. Steering an independent course between political parties and conflicting ideologies, understanding how individuals, society and the state can work together to achieve the common goal of creating a just and free society.

  • Society of Conservative Lawyers

    The Society is open to members of the legal professions. It seeks to uphold the principles of justice and to promote reforms in the law and the legal profession.

  • Stockholm Network

    The Network brings together more than 110 market-oriented think tanks from across Europe to conduct pan-European research on, and create a wider audience for, market-oriented policy ideas in Europe.

  • Taxpayers' Alliance

    The Alliance is a group people from diverse backgrounds but sharing one underlying goal: to fight the burden of high taxes in the UK. They are setting out to build a lasting force in British politics, non-partisan and principled.

  • Tories for Older People

    The Group aims to assist the Conservative Party in developing efficient, comprehensive and long-term policies relating to the affairs of older people (age 60 and over), and endeavours to disseminate information to older Conservatives regarding current Conservative policies.

  • Tory Reform Group

    The TRG believes in a socially just, economically prosperous nation. It encourages debate and the formulation of policy within the Conservative Party, promoting a progressive Conservatism rooted firmly in the mainstream tradition of Disraeli's call for 'One Nation'.

  • Tory radio

    Audio news, interviews and discussion about the Conservative Party.

  • Wave Network

    Wave aims to promote a less judgmental and authoritarian political environment, free lifestyle choices, libertarian attitudes towards minorities and the expansions of civil liberties.

  • Women2Win

    W2W is a campaign to elect more Conservative women to Parliament and sure better representation of women at all levels of the Party.
